Emma Pang and Sophie Lomax from Beaconsfield High School

KIND-HEARTED pupils have pledged support for a young family who are raising money for their daughter’s treatment for a rare brain tumour.

Girls aged 14 and 15 from Beaconsfield High School in Wattleton Road, held a charity cake sale last Thursday (23) and having seen the Advertiser’s front page story about toddler Jessica Rose Duggan, decided to donate the proceeds to her appeal.

Jessica, who is 16-months-old, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour on March 10 which requires urgent treatment in America costing thousands of pounds.

Parents Samantha Ward, 26 and Ben Duggan, 31, need to raise £25,000 to make the expensive trip which could save their daughter’s life.

The pupils raised £40 from the cake sale and teacher at the school, Sue Hattam, said: “It’s not much but perhaps we can inspire other schools to do something similar and Jessica Rose Foundation will reach its target.”

Jessica Page, 14, said: “Charity begins at home and hopefully one day Jessica will be able to come to Beaconfield High School.”

A group of family and friends have organised Jessica’s Family Fun Day, which will be held at The Squirrel Pub in Penn Street, Amersham on July 24 between 12-5pm.

Tickets are £5 on the door for adults, £1 for children.

Email for information.

Mum Samantha, Dad Ben and Jessica Rose

Every now and then something comes into your life that makes you drop everything and help. We all left school and our lives have been very different so far- but yesterday a group of us came together to discuss ways of helping our friend Sam’s daughter, Jessica Rose, who was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in March.

We vowed to help Sam and her partner Ben, who live in Beaconsfield, to raise the £25,000 needed to take Jess to America in August for proton radiotherapy treatment that could save her life. To read more about Jess and why we are raising the money then join her group and become a supporter of ‘Jessica Rose Foundation.’ OR email

We have made our first plan but we need help.

On July 24th we are holding Jessica’s Family Fun Day! If any of you can lend a hand on the day we would be so grateful. We need:

  • Cake makers, cupcakes, big sponges and anything yummy
  • Raffle prizes of any wonderful variety
  • Donated vouchers
  • A bouncy castle
  • A BBQ master
  • Dancers
  • Singers
  • Face painters
  • And anything to make the day fab!

We will select a venue this week and advertise from there…but if you have any ideas that will make a great day – please come forward!

Jess needs all of you, and fast, so please be willing, we have 4 weeks to make this special day happen. Please ask as many of your friends to pop along to the day and show a little support and generosity for a few hours.

Thank you!!!

Jessica’s story appeared on the front page of The Beaconsfield Advertiser on Thursday and as a result, Dad Ben will be speaking about Jess’s appeal on BBC Counties radio this week! For when see Jessica’s page in the next few days.

Message from mum, Samantha:
I would like to say a massive thank you to all our lovely friends and family who have supported us through this very tough old time.  And for all those who helped make Jessica’s fundraiser a massive success. We raised £13,000 towards Jess’s treatment in August. Thank you!
